Meet James Dimitroff, Senior Chiro at Norwest & Belrose

A rugby tragic, James always knew if he couldn’t play for the Wallabies he would follow his second passion…helping people.

One of the many injuries James suffered playing representative rugby as a child was the catalyst in his pursuit to become a chiro. He wanted to be able to replicate the incredible relief he felt when his brothers Chiropractor replaced a rib he dislocated.

As James says,

“Nothing is more satisfying than putting a smile back on people’s faces once they have seen a difference in their bodies after treatment”

A funny, caring guy with a ‘ruggedly handsome and well-manicured beard’ James is a massive Harry Potter and Guy Ritchie fan who loves his coffee. When not treating or at the café you’ll catch James running or getting punished at Crossfit!

Aside from bad drivers, there is no one James doesn’t get along with. We love the energy James brings to Balance.

“Being able to have a positive influence on someone's life, for example helping them get out of pain, is very rewarding for me and a huge influence in why I am a Chiropractor.”

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO PEOPLE’S LIVES?

Having an influence or effect on someone for the better. Being able to have a positive influence on someone's life, for example helping them get out of pain, is very rewarding for me and a huge influence in why I am a Chiropractor. It also means forming relationships with people and is an important part of getting to know you.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO CHIROPRACTIC?

When I had my first sporting injury, a popped rib in rugby union, I had gone to see the doctor and was even admitted to hospital for xrays. The doctors thought I had fractured my rib, but alas there was no fracture on my scans. For some weeks I would be in pain when breathing and coughing and sneezing, and considering it was mid season I didn't want to stop playing rugby. My brother was seeing our new family Chiropractor at the time to help manage his migraines, and he asked if he could have a look at my rib during my brothers session. He was able to diagnose, treat, and share a management plan so that I could not only have pain relief, but I could stop the rib from popping out over and over again. It was at this time he gave me a gentle adjustment, and the pain I had been experiencing for weeks had instantly gone. I was able to play my sport pain free and 'touch wood' I didn't experience another rib injury like that during rugby again. It was this moment, as a 14 year old boy, that I knew that I wanted to be a Chiropractor.

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?

Accept what you can't change, and change what you can if you want to.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU HAVE ACHIEVED THAT, IF YOU COULD TIME TRAVEL, YOU WOULD WANT TO TELL YOUR 10 YEAR OLD SELF?

You're going to marry the most incredible person in the world

WHAT TYPES OF PATIENTS DO YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH THE MOST AND WHY?

Coming from a rugby union sporting background, and having played many other sports while growing up like squash, crossfit, bodybuilding, baseball, basketball, cricket, and soccer; I've always known that I've wanted to help people on and off the field. Being able to find the cause and make a logical explanation of why they got injured or how they can perform better, is a challenging and very fun process for me. Taking the time to understand the mechanics of injury in the sport they play and combine that with the associated or necessary movement patterns is an enjoyable undertaking.

SHOUTOUT ONE PERSON THAT HAS INSPIRED YOU AND WHY?

Tony Haouchab - an amazing leader, colleague and friend who along with the mentoring of Nick Papas and Matt Crooks, helped me develop a mindset and strength that was strong enough to beat Cancer!

IF THEY MADE A MOVIE ABOUT YOU, WHO WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU?

Bruce Willis - Die Hard days - both ruggedly handsome, work well under pressure, and are bald!

WHAT IS YOUR PROMISE TO PATIENTS?

My promise to you is that like any relationship, we will work together to not only find the cause, but collaborate a plan so that we can set you up for success
